Our Feathers

Feathers are essential elements in fly tying. They are used to create different parts of the fly, such as wings, tails, legs and frills. The Feather Shed offers you a variety of feathers from different bird species, each offering unique characteristics.

There are several types of feathers used for fly tying, including:

  1. Rooster hackle feathers: These are widely used to create fly collars, wings and tails. Rooster neck feathers are particularly popular because they are fine and supple.

  2. Partridge Feathers: These feathers are often used to create frills, wings, heads and bodies of flies. They have a beautiful gray-brown color and a soft texture.

  3. Goose feathers (goose biots): These small feathers are used to create segmented bodies of dry flies and nymphs. They are usually tied using the coil or "V" shape method.

  4. Duck Quills: These feathers are used to create dry fly wings, tails and ruffs. They are flexible and durable.

  5. Pheasant tail fibers: These feathers, usually taken from the tail of the pheasant, are used to create tails, nymph bodies and wing covers. They have a rough texture and a natural appearance.

  6. Peacock herl: These feathers are widely used to create nymph bodies, frills and fly heads. They give a nice shine to the flies.

  7. Marabou feathers: These feathers are used to create the wings, tails and bodies of flies. They are soft, light and add an attractive action in the water.

  8. Heron Feathers - Egret The heron feather is a material widely used in tying flies for salmon fishing. Its soft and light texture, as well as its great water absorption capacity, make it ideal for reproducing the appearance and movement of the wings and legs of aquatic insects.
